Does skincare confuse you? There are so many brands and choices out there with lots of confusing steps and recommendations. Ever wonder why it can’t be more simple? It can, and I’ll tell you how.
We need to strip back your skincare routine without stripping your skin of its natural functions.
Getting back to basics with skincare will not only save you dollars but will provide you with so many more benefits.
There are a few easy things we can swap out to make sure we are doing the best for our skin. These steps are really simple and easy to remember so once they become your new routine you’ll be able to just wash and go!
Swap your Mindset.
First, we need to reframe the way we look at our skincare routine. Turn it on its head from chore to self-care opportunity. Look yourself in the mirror and breathe before you cleanse. Take that time to nurture yourself. And as lovely as the home spa treatment feels are, we can shorten the time this takes so you can get more of that precious beauty-sleep.
Replenish your skin while you sleep.
Speaking of beauty sleep, did you know that your skin repairs itself overnight? The last thing you want is to use products that create a barrier at a time when your skin needs to breathe. If you’re using the wrong products for your skin type or even worse not removing your daily make-up, you may interfere with the natural regeneration process leaving you in a loop of skin issues that won’t heal quickly.
By simply washing your face and swapping your nighttime skincare products with natural ones you can aid and soothe your skin as it protects and regenerates the natural way it was always meant to.
When you do the best for your skin, it shows.
It’s essential to understand how your skin works so you can understand how best to care and protect it. Our skin is a barrier which defends us from the environment.
Because it’s porous, the skin absorbs any product you put on it, so if you are using synthetic skincare that means you ingest the chemicals you put on your skin. If you’re eating well and hydrating, it’s counter-productive to use synthetic topical products that could compromise your health as well as your skin’s natural defences.
What you put on your skin is as important as what you put in your body.
Natural products are definitely better for your overall health, but if you have sensitive skin, its absolutely essential you consider using all-natural ingredients. Chemical-based skincare products are often harsh on the skin, increasing sensitivity, redness, soreness and even conditions like eczema. Natural skincare products are gentle and kind to the skin as they contain no harsh, astringent ingredients. They improve the appearance of the complexion and feel luxurious when applied. They also smell delicious thanks to the beautiful flowers and plants they contain. This is why so many spas now are using natural products.
More expensive products and a longer routine won’t necessarily be more effective for your skin. More steps, more products, more time, those things won’t give you the results you want if you don’t understand how your products and your skin work together.
In short – keep it simple. Swap synthetic for natural so it can work in harmony with your unique body chemistry and your skin’s pH balance.
Care from the inside out and the outside in.
One last thing is to remember is taking care of your skin happens from the inside out. Eat well, drink plenty of water and get enough sleep.
It can take between two to eight weeks for skin to heal from damage, so stick with these swaps and let nature take its course.
Take a breath, take a moment, wash and hydrate your face with natural products, and sleep on it.
